First Light

The Department of Physics & Astronomy is pleased to announce the opening of the University's first optical observatory for dedicated study of the stars, built on Frisco Peak near Milford in southwestern Utah.

A "First Light" celebration commemorates the first astronomical images taken by a new telescope facility after construction. A telescope's first light is always a moment of great excitement, both for the people who designed and built the telescope, and for the astronomical community.

We proudly invite the public to join us in celebrating this remarkable and historic occasion.
