ACCESS Program for Women in Science and Mathematics - $3,500 Award

The ACCESS Program exists to increase the number of women in science and mathematics. More than twenty-five cash scholarships of $3,500 are awarded each program year. During the ACCESS program you will attend a seven-week integrated science course designed specifically for the ACCESS program during the summer of your first year at the University of Utah, which can be applied to your general education requirements.

During the spring semester, you will be awarded a research position in one of hundreds of laboratories available across campus, based on your interest. In comparison, many undergraduates do not get laboratory experience until their third year in college or even later.

Throughout the ACCESS year you will participate in a number of meetings and get-togethers to discuss your experiences and engage in science-oriented activities. You will then be an ACCESS Alumna, always part of a growing network of supportive, collaborating science professionals!

Scholarship Criteria:

• Must be a freshman or transfer student admitted to the University of Utah as a matriculated (degree seeking) student for fall semester 2009.

• Intends to major in science, math or engineering.

NOTE: The ACCESS Scholarship is a cash stipend that DOES NOT conflict with most University Scholarships, such as Honors at Entrance, Leadership, and Diversity Scholarships.

Applicants will be informed of results by mid-April 2009. There will be a special ACCESS Orientation to introduce the recipients and their parents to the program and the University of Utah on Saturday, May 16, 2009.

Application deadline: February 20, 2009

The College of Science is grateful for the support of the following organizations that are providing funding for the ACCESS Program:
